Ten návrh se Jeromovi zamlouval, poslechl, a tak pod novým titulem Three Men in a Boat to Say Nothing of the Dog) začal vycházet příběh, který autora okamžitě proslavil. Časopisecký seriál se brzy proměnil v knihu, která se jen v Anglii do dnešních dnů dočkala stovky vydání a byla přeložena snad do všech světových jazyků. A Temže se dlouho po prvních vydáních hemžila mladými muži, kteří se toužili opičit po Jeromovi, Harrisovi a Georgovi.
